College Ministry

The College Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale serves both college students and their families through faith development, pastoral care, and fellowship.  Our goal is to provide care and love while continuing to reach out to our students as they journey outside our safe harbor and the Broward County borders.

Known as “The Port” the College Ministry maintains a connection with students who leave the Fort Lauderdale community to go away to school and those who remain local. With more than 80 students attending schools around the nation, the College Ministry remains engaged with them and lets them know that they are cared for by their church family. College ministry has an annual road trip where we visit our students and bring them care packages. We also host Christmas and Summer gatherings for students and quarterly parent socials.

College Care Packages

About Our Care Package Ministry
Our care package ministry is a way for our church to make a meaningful impact on our students' lives. We know that college life can be both exciting and challenging, and a little encouragement can go a long way! Our goal is to assemble care packages that provide not only practical items, but also a touch of home and warmth from our church family to our approximately 60 undergraduate and graduate students. During the month of October, these care packages are delivered to our students who attend an in-state university and mailed with love to those who attend an out-of-state university.

Needed items are listed here and on our Amazon wishlist. All donations need to be delivered or dropped off at the church by Sunday, September 28th. If you're unable to donate items, but would like to contribute financially, you can donate online or through the offering plate. Please note "College Care Packages" in the memo line.

Your generosity will not only provide practical support but will also boost our students' morale as they navigate their academic journey.
Needed Items
  • Mac and Cheese (in a cup - just add water)
  •  Soup (in a cup - microwavable)
  • Teddy Grahams in a Cup
  •  Cereal in a Cup
  • Pringles Snack Stacks
  • Gum
  • Chapstick
  • Gift Cards: Visa Gift Cards, Target and Starbucks Gift Cards ($5 and $10 denominations)

To make it easy, we have an Amazon Wishlist where you can purchase the needed items, which will be automatically sent to the church. Be sure to include your name so we can say thank you!

On behalf of our students, thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students and supporting our College Ministry! For more info, contact the College Team Chair, Suzanne McCawley, at themccawleys@gmail.com.
