“How Do I Join?”
You may join First Presbyterian Church in any of the following three ways:
1) If you are currently a member of another church, you may join by transfer of membership; or
2) If you have professed your faith before and joined a church, but it has been a while or there is no membership to transfer, you may join by reaffirmation of your faith in Jesus Christ; or
3) If you have never professed your faith in Jesus Christ and never joined a church, you may join by profession of faith in Jesus Christ. If you have never been baptized, we will join with you in the celebration of your baptism into the family of God!
“When Can I Join?”
We welcome new members into the life of our church once a month in between our two services at 9:45 am. This is on the second Sunday of the month. We meet in the Conference Room directly off the hallway behind the main sanctuary for a one hour membership introductory course taught by Rev. Dr. Douglass J Brouwer. Upon completion of the course, you will enter into the membership family of First Presbyterian Church on that same day.
“What Will I Be Asked?”
We have four membership covenant questions.
1) Who is your Savior and Lord?
2) Do you trust in Him?
3) Do you intend to be His disciple, to obey His word, to show His love?
4) Will you be a faithful member of this congregation, giving of yourself in every way, and will
you seek the fellowship of the Church wherever you may be?
“What are the Benefits of Church Membership?”
Joining a community of believers, (a church) is a natural step for a person who has made the decision to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord. Christians need to belong to a community of believers for encouragement and growth in their life of faith.
• The church is a place where members say, “I belong here” and God says that believers belong
together. (Hebrews 10:23-25; Ephesians 2:19; Romans 12:5)
• The church is a place where you receive encouragement as you grow as a disciple of Jesus
Christ. (2 Peter 3:18; Galatians 6:1-2; Hebrews 10:24-25)
• The church is a place where you can develop and give your gifts in ministry.
(1Corinthians 12:4-27)
